Join a Committee

The IMIA relies on its members to advance the profession. We have always been a grassroots organization that believes each person can and should make a difference. Please see the different committees you can join below. Each committee requires a commitment of a monthly one hour meeting and up to an hour of followup between meetings. Meetings are all by phone so you can participate from the comfort of your home. Call for papers, speaker selection and interface
Selection of venue, space and catering
Vendor selection and interface (includes visits to interpreter depts)
Organization of all aspects of our yearly conference

Membership Committee

Creation of corporate membership marketing materials for distribution to hospitals
Hospital liaison work (includes visits to interpreter debts)
General recruitment of individual members as well

eNews Committee

Medical Terminology Committee

Promote Professional Terminology Standards
Work with international medical terminology project
Promote medical terminology online sources for interpreters
Develop standards for medical terminology education for medical interpreters

Nominating and Governance Committee

nominate candidates for (i) all Elected Officers and Elected Directors and (ii) other leadership positions
develop, implement and oversee an ongoing program for leadership training and development within the Corporation as authorized by the Board of Directors
identify any Corporation governance issues which may arise from time to time (through regular periodic surveys of Directors and Members and through such other means as it may deem appropriate)
recommend amendments, modifications or corrections to By-laws
